Here at Woodin' You we are huge proponents of feeding a rotational style diet. And although many customers are aware and onboard with this style of feeding there are still several that aren't. We often get asked whether it's okay to switch up a pet's diet and the answer is yes, with some great benefits. In fact, we highly recommend it!

Rotating simply means not feeding the same exact diet or food formula for your pet's entire life. Think about it, how boring. It's old-school thinking that our pets should eat this way. We wouldn't be thriving if we ate the exact same meal day in and day out for our whole life. Now, there may be some significant health issues that a pet might be facing to cause a strict, but it's typically rare.

Why Rotate

Whether you're a kibble feeder, gently cooked, freeze-dried or raw, rotating between different formulas or brands can help provide a more complete nutritional profile. Each recipe offers unique proteins, fats and micronutrients, so mixing things up ensures your pet isn't missing out on anything essential.

Another perk? It can help prevent food sensitivities. Pets fed the same protein source for years may develop intolerance over time. By rotating through different proteins, you're giving their system a break and keeping their immune response balanced. Plus, variety keeps mealtime exciting for picky eaters! Rotational feeding also supports gut health by encouraging a diverse microbiome; key for digestion and immunity. 

Lastly, by rotating your pet's diet you will be able to make a change if your pet's food becomes unavailable for any reason. This occurred several times in the past few years due to supply chain issues and pet parents had to scramble to begin to rotate. How To Start Rotating

If you're thinking about switching, and haven't done it before we recommend starting with trying a different protein in your current pet food lineup. If you've been feeding a particular brand for a while, consider switching to another brand. We suggest pet parents have 2-3 brands they rotate through. With many of our brands being part of our Rewards Program, it's an easy choice to switch once a frequent buyer card is complete. Start slow, do a gradual transition over 7-10 days for best results by increasing the amount of the new food each meal mixed with the current diet.
