Diatomaceous Earth is a powdery substance made from tiny creatures called diatoms. Diatoms are microalgae which are found in waterways and soils around the world. Diatoms are microscopic and have hard outer shells. These shells are abrasive. Like a nail file, their tiny sharp edges can “grind down” and “scrape” the exoskeleton of parasites. Once the exoskeleton is damaged, the parasite will dehydrate and die. Meanwhile, soft tissues such as the digestive tract or skin will not be damaged by it.
